The Presbyterian Ear Institute has begun renovations on the vacant building that will become its new home. The work on 415 Cedar SE will create a 13,625-square-foot space for the institute and two allied health care providers, said Maggie Simms, director of development for the nonprofit.

The institute will leave its 6,621-square-foot space in the Grace Church building, 1114 Copper NE, when the renovations are completed in early spring. Both buildings are owned by Presbyterian Healthcare Services.

The nonprofit institute is not an affiliate of the corporation although it shares the same name, Simms said.

The institute, which employs 16 people, focuses on cochlear implants, auditory education, research diagnostic and clinical services for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

The expansion will allow the institute to provide lease space for Ear Associates P.C. and Hearing Health Care Centers.

The contractor on the project is Klinger Constructors Inc. The architect is Kevin Georges & Associates.
