PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Austine school for the Deaf's run through the New England Deaf Tournament ended in the championship on Saturday.

The Arrows fell to powerhouse Learning Center in the finale, but it wasn't for lack of effort.

Austine got into the finals with a 2-0 win over Rhode Island school for the Deaf on Friday when Steve Limoges tallied in both halves. But in the finals on Saturday, Learning Center kept the Arrows out of the net and captured a 2-0 win.

"My team did everything I told them to do. We just couldn't score," Arrow coach Peter Rausch said. "I'm very proud of them."

Learning Center scored a goal in each half, including one from scoring sensation Jake Bennet, who was named the tourney's outstanding offensive performer. Arrow Jennifer Harbart was one of three Austine players named NEDT all-stars and she was also named outstanding defender of the tournament. According to Rausch, it was the first time a girl had ever won the award in the tourney's 26-year history.

Limoges and Chris Branagan were the other Austine all-stars.

Wayne Troumbley played a great game in goal for the Arrows in both games. The shutout in the first game of the tourney, combined upon by Troumbley and Jon Valentine, was the fifth of the year for the 8-7 Arrows -- a school record.
