DEAF OAP IS ROBBED

From: Glasgow Daily Record, UK - Aug 18, 2003

DEAF pensioner was robbed of nearly £10,000 by bogus workmen who conned their way into his home.

The 83-year-old let one man in after he turned up at his flat in Edinburgh claiming he had to check the water supply.

But the partially deaf man then realised the workman had let two more men into his Leith home on Friday afternoon. It was only when the trio left he realised his money had gone.

Yesterday Lothian and Borders Police appealed for help finding the thieves, in their mid-twenties.

A spokesman said: "This was a despicable crime against an elderly man."
