Authorities Investigate Leon Woman's Death

Melody Jeffrey Found Dead Tuesday Morning

LEON, Iowa -- The Department of Criminal Investigation and local authorities are investigating a death in the southern Iowa town of Leon.

Melody Jeffrey, 42, was found dead Tuesday morning. Officials would not say yet how Jeffrey died but would say it is an "unattended death." Neighbors said Jeffrey was a "nice girl" who walked her dog every morning and evening at the same time. Friends said she had a disability in that she was deaf and did not speak.

Neighbors said that they noticed an unfamiliar vehicle with Polk County license plates in front of the home Tuesday morning.

Investigators are hoping neighbors may have noticed anything unusual around the home.

An autopsy results are expected to be returned to investigators Wednesday.

Leon is located in Decatur County along Interstate 35 near the Iowa-Missouri border.
