Deaf School Head Resigns At Board's Request

From: KARK, AR - Jun 6, 2003

Story by The Associated Press

The superintendent of the Arkansas School for the Deaf has resigned at the request of the school's board, but she says doesn't know why she was asked to step down.

The four-member board of trustees asked for Sarah Lunestad's resignation after a closed meeting Thursday. She says they didn't ask her any questions and didn't explain why she was being asked to leave.

The board will give Lunestad one month's severance pay and let her stay in the on-campus residence for another month.

Jim Hill, superintendent of the School for the Blind, will oversee the deaf school in the interim.

Some board members said the board could be considering a permanent consolidation of the school under one superintendent.
