(April 28, 2003) ? Rochester School for the Deaf is holding two seminars regarding teaching the deaf to read and how parents should read to their deaf children.

Experts from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., will conduct the seminars.

The first, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, will teach participants how to use repeated readings of a story to deepen students' understanding of the text and to provide opportunities for them to improve their reading and writing skills. The fee for this workshop is $150.

The second, from 9 a.m. to noon next Saturday, May 3, will teach a shared readership program to parents, enabling them or other family members to effectively read to their deaf children.

Registration for this program is $20, or $25 per family.

Deadline to register for either seminar is Wednesday. Call Brenda Goldsmith at (585) 336-5855.
