AMITE - Police are now investigating the homicide of a missing Amite woman whose badly decomposed body was found in a wooded area near her home Saturday, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's spokesperson Patti Giannoble said.

Debbie Ann Lindsey, 44, lived with her boyfriend at 62658 Strahan Road, Giannoble said. Lindsey, a deaf-mute, was reported missing by her parents on Feb. 17.
On Saturday, deputies and detectives were doing a walk-through of the woods near Lindsey's home searching for any evidence or clues that might lead to information into her disappearance, Giannoble said.
Instead, they found the badly decomposed body of Lindsey behind her house exactly one month after she disappeared, she said. The entire wooded area is now considered a crime scene, and authorities aren't sure if Lindsey was killed there or dumped there after being killed elsewhere.
Lindsey had been stabbed multiple times in the upper body, according to an autopsy report from the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office. The report didn't indicate how long Lindsey had been dead.
"We're conducting a homicide investigation," Giannoble said. "We've been interviewing as many people as possible as part of our investigation."
The death isn't believed to be connected to the serial killings of women in the Baton Rouge area, she said.
"There is no evidence to suggest any link between the two," she said.
