Alleyoop Comes Bouncing into Town Once Again
From: Anacortes Online, WA - 16 Mar 2003
Late last year, the youngest students at Whitney and Island View elementaries were treated to a wonderful performance by Alleyoop, who sings and tells stories, brings out his amazing collection of whistles and toys, and promotes reading ceaselessly.
Now, students at Fidalgo and Mt. Erie elementaries will have the same treat. He will appear at those two schools in the morning of March 17.
Mr. Oop, known off stage as Allan Hirsch, is the winner of two Parent Choice awards for his popular recordings. He is a member of the National Storytelling Association, and of the American Federation of Musicians.
His tales might be about American legends, or folk and tall tales. He delights as much as the kids do in "spoonerisms," which gave the deaf and hard-of-hearing interpreter at the Island View show quite a challenge. She did great!
For 30 years, Allan Hirsch has taught and performed for kids of all ages. He is a one-of-a-kind performer, a throwback to the troubadours of days gone by.
