A new FM for young Ben
From: Port Macquarie News, Australia - 10 Mar 2003
HEARING impaired student Ben Collins will take possession of a brand new hearing device this week, after thieves stole his original one from his classroom.
The frequency modulator (FM), valued about $1000, was replaced by Australian Hearing Services.
Ben has lived with a severe to profound hearing loss since birth, when he and his twin brother were born three months premature.
The year one Hastings Public School student needs the device to create a direct communication link with his teacher.
The Port Macquarie branch of Australian Hearing Services donated a temporary hearing device while the new transmitter was being sought.
That has allowed Ben to learn at school without the added pressure of having a hearing impairment.
