Maharashtra win opener

Pune, February 6: Hosts Maharashtra scored a resounding 34-12 win over Rajasthan in the first National Basketball Championship of the deaf at the Deccan Gymkhana court, here on Thursday.

At the end of two quarters, Maharashtra were leading 34-12. In the next two quarters they added 19 more points to their kitty, while Rajasthan failed to score a single point. Prakash Sawala (22) and Milind Sathe (14) were the main scorers for Maharashtra. For Rajasthan Jagdish Poonia and Arvind Singh scored four points each.

In the second match, Karnataka defeated Andhra Pradesh 15-6 in a low-scoring encounter. Kumar Shankar and KM Babu scored four points each for Karnataka while K Balakoshal scored four points for the losers. In the day’s last encounter, Tamil Nadu stamped their authority over Gujarat with a 59-6 victory. Sri Venkatesh (15), Alex Sebastian (14) and Vinu Abraham (12) were the leading scorers for Tamil Nadu. Sunil Patel scored all the points for Gujarat.
