From: Cherokee County Herald, GA - 03 Feb 2003

The Trojans weren’t shooting Blanks against Georgia School for the Deaf on Jan. 27, as Casey Blankenship’s six three-point baskets propelled Gaylesville (3-19) to a 74-53 win over GSD. Blankenship finished with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Steele scored 11 points, while J.J. Slayton and Jerry Stancil each contributed 10. B.J. Flynt grabbed nine re-bounds, followed by Nick James with five. R. Johnson led GSD with 13 points. “The kids played well, and I’m especially pleased with some substitutes who stepped up and proved that they could be playing more,” said Gaylesville head coach Drew Davis. “Casey had a great game, both offensively and defensively, and several other kids played extremely well tonight.” Steele’s eight first-quarter points helped the hosts post a 14-9 lead after eight minutes. Blankenship’s second trey of the game made it a 24-15 Tro-jan advantage at the 4:27 mark of the second period, while Stancil’s stellar inside game produced 10 of Gaylesville’s 21 second-quarter points on the way to a 35-22 halftime lead. Blankenship continued to connect from the perimeter in the second half, as the junior shooting guard notched three three-pointers and 11 points in the third quarter to help the hosts take a 52-36 lead after 24 minutes. A 7-0 run drew GSD within nine points at 6:46 of the fourth quarter, but Slayton went 4-for-5 at the foul line over the final two minutes to send the visitors back to Cave Spring empty han-ded.
