Woman Sentenced for Child Abuse

From: WPVI, PA - 25 Jan 2003

Wilmington-January 25, 2003 — A woman who admitted shaking and dropping a two-month-old foster child because he wouldn't stop crying has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.

Stephanie Walls was convicted last month of assaulting and endangering Nicholas Truselo, who was left blind, deaf and brain-damaged two years ago.

Superior Court Judge Fred Silverman sentenced Walls to four years in prison for felony assault by abuse or neglect. Walls received another six months in prison for endangering the welfare of a child.

She could have been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Nicholas is in the custody of another foster family and requires 24-hour nursing care.

Walls told police she didn't mean to harm the baby when she shook him and dropped him on the floor when he wouldn't stop crying.
