Trojans defeat GSD for first win of season

From: Cherokee County Herald, GA - 13 Jan 2003

A strong fourth quarter put the game away as visiting Gaylesville (1-17) posted a 52-35 victory in Cave Spring, Ga., over Georgia School for the Deaf (0-13) Saturday night. The Trojans managed a 7-5 lead at the first stop and took a 19-14 edge to the dressing room. GSD pared the deficit to 32-29 by the end of three, but a 20-5 fourth-quarter for GHS put the Trojans in the win column for the first time this season. “We missed 48 shots and still won,” said Gaylesville head coach Drew Davis. “It certainly feels good to get a win; we just wished that it could have come a little earlier in the season. We hope that we can build on this for the county tournament and the rest of the season.” Chris Steele was the lone Trojan in double digits in scoring with 19 and added four assists and five steals. Chris Perry pulled down eight rebounds to go with nine points and three assists. GAYLESVILLE (52) — Steele 19, Perry 9, Stancil 8, J.Cavin 4, Crane 3, Flynt 2, James 2, C.Blankenship 2, T.Blankenship 2, D.Cavin 1. GSD (35) — Totts 12, Alvarez 7, Collier 6, Johnson 5, Kinson 2.
