Maharashtra: 'deaf and dumb killers' sent to police custody

Nagpur, Jan. 27. (PTI): Four deaf and dumb students, including three girls, who were arrested along with eight other handicapped students for allegedly killing their teacher late last night, were today remanded to police custody till February 3.

Enraged over attempts of the teacher to prevent mixing of boys with girls, staying in different floors, the handicapped students allegedly suffocated to death 25-year-old Nalini Gaikwad, police said. Two boys had hidden in the girls room and committed the dastardly act, police said.

Eight more students, including seven girls, juvenile delinquents, were sent to a remand home by a Juvenile Court.

The four remanded by a local court to police custody till February 3 were Ramesh Gotal (19), Asha Dashrath Madankar (19), Geeta Panchbhai (20) and Madhuri Kuthe (20), police said.

The suspected inmates confessed their crime and also narrated the modus operandi by using sign language, which was interpreted by another teacher of the school. Police requisitioned the services of teachers from other deaf and dumb schools to record the statements.

All the accused were rounded up late last night by the police.
