Deaf - dumb students kill teacher

Twelve deaf and dumb students, including 10 girls, were arrested last night for allegedly killing their teacher, police said on Monday.

The students, inmates of a private deaf and dumb school from a west city area, were rounded up for allegedly suffocating to death their teacher Nalini Gaikwad as she objected mixing of boys and girls during evening hours, police said.

The two boys hid themselves in the girls room and in the wee hours of Sunday stifled the teacher who used to sleep with the girl inmates. The murder came to light in the morning when the caretaker found the victim's body on the floor and informed the school authorities who then informed the police.

The boys confessed to the crime and using sign language, interpreted by teachers, said they had used a pillow to suffocate the victim.

The boys were living on second floor and girls on first floor and the deceased was objecting to their frequent meetings and entering each others' areas, police said.

Offences under section 302, 143 and 120 IPC have been registered against the students, police said adding, they would be produced in a local court later on Monday.
