Man to face court on assault charges

The Department of Prosecutions in Alice Springs says a 24-year-old man will face trial on several aggravated assault and grievous bodily harm charges.

The man, who is a deaf mute, faced court on the charges in April, but was discharged because the court found he could not understand proceedings.

The department says the man will now be brought up on an ex-officio indictment to the Supreme Court on February 6, 2003.

The indictment means the case will go directly to the Supreme Court without first going through the Magistrate's Court.
