From: KARK, AR - 20 Dec 2002

Story by The Associated Press

A former worker at the state Deaf School has been found guilty of second-degree criminal attempt to violate a minor, a misdemeanor. The conviction stems from the 25-year-old Caldwell's attempt to have sex with a male student in his care about two years ago.

The Pulaski County Circuit Court jury that convicted Byron Caldwell Thursday recommended a sentence of six months in jail.

The jury took a little more than two hours to convict Caldwell on the lesser charge. He had been charged with first-degree attempt to violate a minor, which is a felony.
