A DEAF Ipswich pensioner charged with indecently assaulting two 14-year-old boys has had his case postponed claiming he couldn't hear the evidence.

South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court adjourned the trial of 68-year-old Leslie Keeble before he could enter a plea until they could locate a stenographer.

Keeble, from Rosehill Road, is accused of luring a paperboy and his friend to his home on the promise of a Christmas tip last December.

But once there Mr Keeble allegedly showed pornographic films before indecently assaulting both boys.

The court was told Mr Keeble suffered profound hearing loss after an industrial accident.

Defending, Nicky Millar told the court Mr Keeble did not wear a hearing aid and could not understand sign language.

Chairman of the bench Eric McCoy postponed the start of Keeble's trial on Wednesday until a stenographer could be found to present the defendant with a written record.
