FREMONT -- The California School for the Deaf is inviting parents of deaf students, American Sign Language students, alumni and the general public to the school's annual open house Monday.

CSD, a state-funded public school for Northern California students who are deaf or hard of hearing, provides education that is specifically designed for visual learning. The school also provides community and family education programs.

Visitors can see classrooms and student housing. Students will present a noontime variety show in sign language.

A Deaf Faire, exhibiting deaf-related services in the Bay Area, will be held in the gym, and there will be food and craft sales throughout the campus.

"Since California School for the Deaf has such a wonderful reputation for educating deaf children, so many visitors have asked to visit the school," school Superintendent Hank Klopping wrote. "We are unable to accomodate each visitor without disrupting instructional time. So, the open house is a fun time for everyone to visit the campus."

"This is a great opportunity for our community members to see what enhancing the signing environment is like at the (school)," wrote Cheryl Boyd, event coordinator. "It is guaranteed to expand a person's horizon."
